Bouw van eerste R Yacht-schip Sefu vordert in hoog tempo

The construction of R Yacht’s first vessel, the Sefu, is progressingat the WestSea Shipyard in Viana do Castelo, Portugal.

 

 

Bouw van R Yacht’s eerste schip Sefu vordert in Portugal

De bouw van de Sefu, het eerste schip van R Yacht, is volop aan de gang op de WestSea-scheepswerf in Viana do Castelo, Portugal. In een recente nieuwsbrief deelde het bedrijf de eerste foto’s van de werkzaamheden, samen met nieuwe details over het project.

Volgens R Yacht begint de Sefu “langzaam maar zeker vorm te krijgen”. De ligging van de werf, vlak bij de rivier de Lima, wordt door het bedrijf benadrukt als een praktisch voordeel voor de bouw. De oplevering staat gepland voor de eerste helft van 2027.

Het nieuwe schip wordt gebouwd voor toekomstige routes in Azië en verrijst in een droogdok van 200 meter lang, waar pre-gefabriceerde blokken met een kraan op hun plek worden gezet. In totaal bestaat het 10.000-tons schip uit 65 blokken; de eerste segmenten staan inmiddels al in het dok.

“De spanning bouwt op terwijl de blokken dag na dag worden gestapeld. De bouw verloopt gestaag,” aldus R Yacht.

Een belangrijk element waar het bedrijf extra aandacht aan besteedt, is het marinedek. Dit wordt momenteel geïnstalleerd en wordt het eerste in zijn soort op een schip dat wordt gebouwd voor de Japanse markt.

“Gasten kunnen rechtstreeks vanuit de marina in zee zwemmen of met speciale kleine boten afgelegen eilanden en stranden bereiken,” legt R Yacht uit.

Na het plaatsen van het marinedekblok wordt er aan beide kanten van het schip steigerwerk opgebouwd, zodat extra componenten kunnen worden gelast en gemonteerd.

De Sefu werd eind 2023 besteld door het Japanse Ryobi Holdings. Het bedrijf richtte later een nieuwe cruiseorganisatie op om het schip op de Japanse markt te introduceren, waar het naar verwachting het hele jaar door zal opereren. Het jachtachtige schip krijgt een capaciteit van maximaal 120 gasten op basis van dubbele bezetting.

R Yacht said that the Sefu is “slowly starting to take shape” at the Portuguese town, highlighting its proximity to the Lima River. The vessel is set to be delivered in the first half of 2027.

Set to offer itineraries in Asia, the Sefu is being built at a 200-meter-long drydock using a crane to position pre-built blocks.

The 10,000-ton vessel will be made of 65 blocks, of which the first are already in place at the building dock.

“Anticipation is building as the blocks are steadily stacked up day by day. Construction is proceeding steadily,” R Yacht stated.

The company also highlighted the ship’s marina deck, which is currently being installed and will be the first of its kind in a ship built for the Japanese market.

“Guests will be able to swim directly into the sea from the marina or land on remote islands or beaches in special small boats,” R Yacht explained.

According to the company, after placing the feature’s block, the shipyard is now setting up scaffolding on both sides of the ship to weld additional components.

As previously reported by Cruise Industry News, the Sefu was ordered by Japan-based Ryobi Holdings in late 2023.

The company later set up a new cruise operation to introduce the vessel to the Japanese market, which it is expected to serve on a year-round basis. Focusing on a yacht-like product, the vessel will carry up to 120 guests in double occupancy.
